日本の高齢化や人口減少の問題と一緒に語られることのある問題に、農業の衰退が挙げられるかと思います。
日本の農業人口はおよそ250万人だそうですが、このうち50歳以上が90%、65歳以上が59%と農業に携わっている人の高齢化が顕著になっています。
また、農業は国の保護政策による規制も多く、新規参入や大規模化、効率化が妨げられる状況が続いてきました。
一方で、日本は世界に類を見ないほど食に対する探究心も強く、また生産者の職人気質もあってか果物などは世界一の品質を誇ると言っても過言ではないのでしょうか。
そんな中、コロナ禍が世界を襲い、都市部で会社勤務をしていた若者たちが田舎に移住するような動きも出ていると聞きます。
また、最近、FIRE (Financial Independence, Rerire Eearly)と呼ばれるアーリーリタイアメントを目指す若者も増えていると言います。
こうした若者のニーズと、日本が抱える農業の高齢化を踏まえ、地方にある耕作放棄地を企業が買い取り、農業を始めてみたい若者に提供するマッチングサービスを始めてみたら面白いと思ったのですがどうでしょうか。
日本には、約40万haの耕作放棄地があり、その面積は滋賀県の面積をほぼ同じだそうです。
完全なFIREとまではいかないかもしれませんが、地方であればそもそも住居費も東京ほどは掛かりませんし、農業で稼いだお金と、野菜などは自給自足で賄えるので十分に暮らしていけるのではないでしょうか。
もちろん、会社員と比べて農業はそんなに甘い仕事ではないと思いますが、耕作放棄地を買い取って企業が全面的にサポート、プロデュースしていければ、付加価値の高い農作物を作ったり、企業を巻き込んで村おこしのようなこともできるかもしれません。
すでにそんな事業を展開している会社はありますでしょうか。誰もやっていないのなら自分でやってみたいなと思うのでした。

In the midst of all this, the Corona disaster has hit the world, and I hear that some young people who used to work in urban areas are now moving to the countryside.
I also hear that an increasing number of young people have recently begun to pursue what is called FIRE (Financial Independence, Rerire Eearly), or early retirement.
Given the needs of these young people and the aging of Japan’s agricultural industry, I thought it would be interesting to start a matching service in which companies purchase abandoned farmland in rural areas and offer it to young people who want to start farming.
There are approximately 400,000 hectares of abandoned farmland in Japan, which is almost the same size as the area of Shiga Prefecture.
It may not be a complete FIRE, but in rural areas, housing costs are not as high as in Tokyo to begin with, and the money earned from farming and vegetables can be self-sufficient enough to live on.
Of course, farming is not such a lenient job compared to working for a company, but if a company buys up abandoned farmland and provides full support and production, it may be possible to produce high value-added agricultural products or even revitalize a village with the involvement of a company.
Are there any companies that have already developed such a business? If no one else is doing it, I would like to try it myself.
