私は、持って生まれた性格なのか、それとも一人っ子だったことが影響していたのか、子供の頃から誰かと競うことが嫌いでした。
そのため、学業やスポーツなど何かで一番を取ったこともなければ何か賞をいただいたこともありません。
社会人になると、学力テストやスポーツテストからは解放されますが、外資系の会社に入ったので、そこは一般的に実力主義で生き残りをかけての競争が激しくなる社会です。
ただ、私は、そこでも誰かと競うという気持ちは全くなく、その代わりにとにかく自分自身の専門性を高めていくこと、そして成長していくことだけに集中することでここまで生き残ってきたと思っています。
そして、時代は今、集団の時代から、個人の時代に変わってきています。
個人の時代だからといって、競争が無くなる訳ではないですが、競争を避けてうまく棲み分けて仕事をしたり、競争ではなくて共創して生きていける時代になったのではないでしょうか。
特に今注目されている、SDG (持続可能な開発目標)を実現するためには、競争して何かを取り合う社会ではなくて、共存、共有していくことがますます必要になってきます。
私自身、競争を完全に否定する訳ではありませんが、それでも競争が誰かと比較することで成立するのだとすると、そのために自分の人生を生きるのはとても勿体ないと思ってしまいます。
そのかわりに、自分の人生は100%自分の責任で、自分のやりたいことと好きなことを全うすることが残りの人生の使命だと思っています。そして、誰もが自分のやりたいことをやれる社会こそが、持続可能な社会と言えるのではないでしょうか。

Whether it was my natural disposition or the fact that I was an only child, I have always disliked competing with others since childhood.
As a result, I have never been the best in academics, sports, or anything else, nor have I received any awards.
When I entered the workforce, I was free from academic and sports tests, but I joined a foreign-affiliated company, which is generally a meritocracy and a society where competition for survival is fierce.
However, I believe that I have survived so far by not having any desire to compete with anyone there either, but instead just focusing on my own professional development and growth anyway.
And now, the era has changed from the era of the group to the era of the individual.
The age of the individual does not mean that competition will disappear, but I believe that we have entered an age in which we can avoid competition, work in separate areas, and live by co-creating rather than competing.
In particular, in order to realize the SDG (Sustainable Development Goals), which are currently the focus of attention, it will become increasingly necessary to coexist and share, rather than compete with each other to win something.
I myself do not completely reject competition, but even so, if competition is based on comparison with someone else, it would be a shame to live one’s life for that purpose.
Instead, I believe that I am 100% responsible for my life and that my mission for the rest of my life is to fulfill what I want to do and what I love.
And I believe that a society in which everyone can do what they want to do is a sustainable society.
子供の頃から競争が嫌いだったなのに、就職は競争が激しい外資系の会社に。こんな世界長くはいられないと思ったものでしたが、それでも最先端のマネージメント手法やリーダーシップスキルを学ばせていただき専門性を磨くことで30年も外資系の会社に籍を置くことに。今も時価総額世界一の企業で学べるのは本当に財産です。
