皆さんは占いを信じますか。
私は、占いに対しては、これまで否定的な立場を取ってきました。
性格的にも、科学的な根拠のないもの、立証されていないものに興味が持てないからということが大きいかもしれません。
また、占いに自分の運勢や人生を任せられるものか、自分の人生は自分の努力で切り開いていくものだという考えが強かったからかもしれません。
ただ、占いが、過去の膨大なデータを元に未来を予測するものだとすると、どのようにそのデータを解釈して、どのように占いの手法が構築されたのかを知ることで、何か自分の凝り固まった考えが変わったり、自分の新しい側面が見えないか、という好奇心がむくむくと起き上がってきました。
ということで、数日前から、Steven Forrestさんというアメリカの占星術士の書いた、The Book Of Fire という本を読んでいます。
12星座は、火、地、風、水の4つのエレメントに分類され、この、The Book Of Fireという本は、この４つのエレメントを扱ったシリーズ本の最初の本となります。
ちなみに、
火 .. 牡羊座、獅子座、射手座
地 .. 牡牛座、乙女座、山羊座
風 .. 双子座、天秤座、水瓶座
水 .. 蟹座、蠍座、魚座
に、それぞれの星座は分類されます。
私は天秤座なので、最初に、The Book of Windから読み始めれば良かったかなと思っています。あー、それより、妻と娘は、二人とも”地”のエレメントにいるぞ。それで、あんなに結託しているんだな。あれ、気がついたらもうハマっているではありませんか。
読み終わったら、洋書レビューで紹介させていただきますが、一昔前の自分だったら、絶対に選ばなかったであろう本を読んでいる自分を見て、人は変わると、思うのでした。

Do you believe in fortune telling?
I’ve always taken a negative stance on fortune telling.
Perhaps it’s because of my personality and my inability to be interested in things that have no scientific basis or have not been proven.
Also, I was not sure if I could trust my fortune and my life to fortune telling, or if I had a strong belief that my life was something I had to make an effort to create.
However, if fortune telling is to predict the future based on a vast amount of past data, knowing how the data was interpreted and the methods of fortune telling were developed, the curiosity to see a new side of myself arose in me, and I began to wonder if I would be able to change my entrenched ideas and I’ve been reading The Book Of Fire, written by an American astrologer named Steven Forrest.
The twelve signs are divided into four elements: fire, earth, wind, and water, and this book, The Book Of Fire, is the first book in a series of books dealing with these four elements.
Fire … Aries, Leo, Sagittarius
Earth … Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn
Wind … Gemini, Libra, Aquarius
Water … Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces
I’m a Libra, so I guess I should have started reading The Book of Wind first. Oh, and by the way, my wife and daughter are both in the “Earth” element. That’s why they’re in such collusion.
When I finished reading the book, I will post a review of it in the Western Book Review, but I saw myself reading a book that I would never have chosen a decade ago, and I realized that people change.
