英語勉強歴40年以上(??)の自分に取って、勉強法と同じくらい重要なことに、勉強の効率性や効果性を手助けしてくれるツールがあります。
これまでも、様々な方法やツールを使い英語を勉強してきましたが、今、現在行っている勉強方法とツールを紹介してみたいと思います。
リスニング、スピーキング
英エコノミスト誌のデジタル版 …. 世界の最新の政治や経済ニュースを取り上げている週刊誌ですが、こちらのデジタル版を購読しています。デジタル版の利点は、iPhoneやiPodで読めるので、何処にでも持ち歩いて行けること、そして、全ての記事を音声で確認できます。私の場合、愛犬との散歩中は、ずっとiPhoneで音声を確認しています。そして、出来るだけシャドーイングをしています。他にも米タイム誌のデジタル版も購読していますが、こちらは音声ファイルはついていません。
リーディング、スピーキング
Kindleで洋書 … 今、最も力を入れているのは、英語のリーディングです。Kindleには、常に、読みかけ中とこれから読む予定の洋書がジャンルを問わず、10冊以上はダウンロードされています。E-Bookの利点は、知らない単語をタップ一つで直ぐに確認出来ること、更に、もう一回タップすることで発音を確認出来ることがお気に入りです。また、覚えたい単語を色でハイライトしておけるので、後で単語帳に書き写すのも容易です。もう一つ欠かせないのは、とにかく音読することです。これで、発音が鍛えられます。
ライティング
英訳 ….私の場合は、YOMIURI ONLINE版の社説を、30分と時間を区切って英訳します。そして、ポイントは、その後、Japan News (Yomiuriの英語版）のサイトに掲載される、同じ社説記事の英語版で、自分の英訳と比べるようにしています。これで、確実に、単語力や表現力が鍛えられます。
他にも、色々な勉強法やツールを試してきましたが、また、別の機会に紹介していきたいと思います。

I have been studying English for more than 40 years (?), and one thing that is as important to me as my study methods are the tools that help me study more efficiently and effectively.
I have used various methods and tools to study English in the past, but I would like to introduce some of the methods and tools that I am currently using.
Listening and speaking
Digital version of the Economist magazine ….
This is a weekly magazine that covers the latest political and economic news from around the world, and I subscribe to the digital version of this magazine. The advantage of the digital version is that I can read it on my iPhone or iPod, so I can take it with me wherever I go, and I can check all the articles in audio format. In my case, I check the audio on my iPhone all the time while walking with my dog. I also subscribe to the digital version of Time magazine, but it does not have audio files.
Reading and Speaking
Western books on Kindle …
I have more than 10 books downloaded to my Kindle at any given time that I’m reading or planning to read. The advantage of the E-Book is that you can check the pronunciation of a word you don’t know with just one tap, and you can check the pronunciation by tapping again. I also like the fact that I can highlight the words I want to memorize by color, so I can easily copy them into my vocabulary book later. Another essential thing is to read the words aloud. This will help you train your pronunciation.
Writing
English translation ….
In my case, I translate an editorial from the YOMIURI ONLINE edition into English in a time limit of 30 minutes. After that, I compare my English translation with the English version of the same editorial article posted on the Japan News (the English version of Yomiuri) website. This is a surefire way to improve my vocabulary and expression skills.
I have also tried various other study methods and tools, but I would like to introduce them another time.
