言葉に使われるのではなくて、言葉を使いこなす

他の人から見たら、私は、所謂英語オタクと映るのではないかと思っています。

英語をペラペラと喋っている日本人や、発音が上手い日本人をみると、単純に憧れてしまいます。

もちろん、頭では、例え発音が悪くても、しっかりとした内容を持っていることが大事だということは理解しているのですが、それでも、見た目が大事だと思ってしまいます。

そういう意味で、他に人は気にならないことに執着したり、どうしても拘ってしまうという意味でも、英語オタクなのだと思います。

ただ、語学を勉強していく中でとても大事だと思っていることがあります。それは、

Let us not work for language , but let them work for us .

つまり、

言葉の専門家になるのではなく、言葉を使いこなす実践者になるということです。

私に取っては、この実践者になる、というのがとても大切なことで、評論家でなくて実践者、専門家でなくて実践者、何処の場に出てもキレル英語の使い手になりたいのです。

このあたりは、英語の道を武道の修行に重ねた、松本道弘さんの影響をかなり受けているのだと思います。

ということで、英語というツールを使って、自分らしさを表現したり、自分を磨いていけるように死ぬまで精進したいと思います。

I think other people see me as a so-called English geek.

When I see Japanese people who speak English fluently or have good pronunciation, I simply admire them.

Of course, in my head, I understand that it is important to have solid content, even if the pronunciation is poor, but I still think that appearance is important.

In that sense, I think I’m an English geek in the sense that I obsess and can’t help obsessing over things that other people don’t care about.

However, there is one thing that I think is very important in studying a language.

That is.

Let us not work for the language , but let them work for us .

In other words.

Let us not work for language , but let them work for us . In other words, let us not become language experts, but let us become language practitioners.

For us, becoming a practitioner is very important. We want to be a practitioner, not a critic, a practitioner, not a specialist, and we want to be able to use English well wherever we go.

I think I have been influenced by Michihiro Matsumoto, who likened the path of English to the practice of martial arts.

Therefore, I would like to devote myself until the day I die so that I can use the tool of English to express my personality and improve myself.
