社会人になっての30年間、今働いている会社を含め、二社の外資系の会社で働いてきました。
就職活動中に外資系の会社を選んだのは、単純に仕事で英語を使えるのではないかと思ったこととがきっかけでした。
結果、仕事を通して英語を学べ、海外での勤務も経験させてもらい本当に感謝しかありません。
また、自分には外資系の会社が向いていたと思うことに、もともと独立心が強く、社交性があまり無いことが、会社への帰属意識をそんなに求められず、また専門性を極めていける外資系の環境が合っていたことがあげられます。
更に、今の自分の目標になっている、アーリーリタイアメントと、ライスワークからライフワークへの挑戦も、外資系の会社で共に働いてきた先輩達にロールモデルがいるからに他なりません。
因みに、もう一度社会人をやり直すとしたら、新卒で入るのはやはり外資系の会社、そこで英語と専門性を学びながら、次の挑戦は、やはり外資系のベンチャー系の会社、そして、自分で起業するということを目指すと思います。
最後に一つ、自分にとっては恥ずかしいお話をします。
社会人になった時、初めてTOEICというテストを受けました。その時のスコアは550点でした。そうです。とても仕事で英語が使えるレベルではありませんでした。
それでも、英語はコツコツとやれば誰でも例外なく向上します。
少しでも誰かの希望になればいいなと思います。

In the 30 years I have been in the workforce, I have worked for two foreign-affiliated companies, including the one I work for now.
When I was looking for a job, I chose a foreign-affiliated company simply because I thought I could use English at work.
As a result, I was able to learn English through my work, and I am very grateful for the opportunity to work overseas.
I also think that I was suited to a foreign-affiliated company because I have always had a strong sense of independence and am not very sociable, so the foreign-affiliated environment did not require me to have a strong sense of belonging to the company and allowed me to develop my expertise.
Furthermore, my current goals of early retirement and challenging myself to change from rice work to life work are due to the fact that I have role models among my seniors who have worked with me in foreign-affiliated companies.
Incidentally, if I were to start working again, I would probably enter a foreign-affiliated company as a new graduate, where I could learn English and specialize, and then move on to a foreign-affiliated venture company, where I could start my own business.
Finally, I would like to tell you a very embarrassing story.
When I entered the workforce, I took the TOEIC test for the first time. My score at that time was 550. That’s right. I was not at a level where I could use English at work. Still, anyone can improve their English without exception if they work hard at it.
I hope I can be a hope for someone.
