(English)

I have been working in the corporate world for 30 years now, and for almost 20 of those years, I have served foreign bosses.

In particular, I have reported to an American boss for the most number of years. Also, my current company allows me to work in senior management, so I have a lot of interaction with Americans at the US headquarters.

I have also worked with Australians, Chinese, Singaporeans, Indians, Koreans, Irish, French, and many other ethnic groups, and one characteristic of the Japanese that is different from any other ethnic group is that they are not good at taking leadership and making decisions.

At first, I thought it was a matter of English proficiency, but my Chinese colleagues, even though they have a handicap in English, are able to discuss and take leadership without hesitation.

Of course, English ability is a factor, but I also think that Japanese people are good at following rules, but not so good at making them.In the workplace, I have heard the term “game changer” more and more often.

It is important to not only participate in the game but also to be on the side of making the rules of the game so that we can take control of the game.

Also, as my American boss used to say, “If you don’t make your own choices, someone else will, and there is no job more boring than simply following what someone else decides.

I myself have been working in a foreign company for 30 years with colleagues from various countries and races, and I have always longed to become a global person who can work internationally.

However, recently I have been feeling more and more that Japanese people have their own merits and that we should promote the merits of Japan more to the world.

However, if things continue as they are, Japan’s presence in the world will not increase, so I would like to think in my own way about what I can do to make Japan more appealing.
