(English)

If I had to name two players who have been active in the MLB and are still active today, I think most people would say Ichiro and Otani.

My image of these two players is that Ichiro is stoic and has the image of a samurai, while Otani is a baseball boy who has grown up and genuinely enjoys playing baseball.

In other words, Ichiro was a professional no matter what, while Otani seems to enjoy throwing the ball farther and faster than anyone else.

I have always admired and sympathized with people like Ichiro, who pursue their ideals and continue to work hard to master one thing at a time.

On the other hand, Otani has transcended even the notion of being a baseball player and has shown me a landscape of the other side of the world that no one has ever achieved before, which is probably why I just want to support him. He is no longer someone to criticize or critique.

Incidentally, when I read Ohtani’s words about his attitude toward baseball, I can feel that he wants to enjoy baseball purely, not as a profession.

I enjoy continuing to play baseball every day, but when it comes to practice, I don’t like it; I did it as an obligation to improve. After coming to the U.S., in 2019, he said, “I don’t really want to practice. I don’t really want to practice,” he said in 2019 after he came to the U.S. “If I can just play games every day and then go to a game and hit, that’s fine. I can’t hit unless I practice, so I do practice (laughs).

In the future, there may be more pressure on him to set home run records, but I strongly hope that he will simply enjoy baseball rather than setting records.
