成功したければ成功している人のマネをするといい
確かに、何か習い事や新しい事を始める際にはその道のプロや先生に付いてひたすら真似ることから始めることが上達の近道ですよね。
ただある程度のレベルまで行ったら、先生の言われたことだけをするのではなく、自分で考え、自分で試行錯誤しながら、自分に会った練習法や勉強法を模索することが大切ではないかと思っています。
日本には、剣道や茶道などの芸道における師弟関係のあり方を説明するときに、”守破離” という言葉が使われています。
先ずは、師匠の教えや型を徹底的に真似る（守る）。
次に、自分に会ったより良い型を模索して、既存の型を改良していく（破る）。
そして、最終的には、自分自身にしかできない型を作る（離れる）。
私自身、社会人になってからの30年、英語を武器に仕事をしてきて、今でも、英語の達人になりたくて毎日英語を勉強していますが、今の自分のレベルは、守破離でいうところの ”破る” だと思っています。
学校での英語教育を終えて、社会に出ても英語学習を続けている人が、ある調査では800万人(25歳以上の英語学習者）いるそうです。
その人達が目指しているレベルは、人によって違う訳ですが、私のように英語を一つの芸道、つまり英語道と考えて修行（勉強）している人は、まさに自分にしか歩めない英語道を開拓していくことが究極の喜びであると思っています。
そして、私たちの人生は、芸道における師弟関係のあり方である”守破離”のようなものだと感じています。
誰でもこの世に生を受けて最初は型を覚え、そこから少しづつ型を改良していく、最後は自分自身にしかできない型（人生）を作る。人生の目的です。

If you want to be successful, you should imitate successful people.
It’s true that when you start learning something or doing something new, the shortcut to improvement is to follow a professional or a teacher in that field and just start imitating them.
However, once you get to a certain level, I think it is important to not only do what the teacher tells you to do, but also to think for yourself, go through trial and error, and find a practice or study method that suits you.
In Japan, the term “Mamoru-ba-ritsu” is used to describe the relationship between master and disciple in art forms such as kendo and tea ceremony.
The first step is to thoroughly imitate (protect) the master’s teachings and kata.
Next, you must search for a better form that suits you and improve the existing form (break it).
And finally, create a kata that only you can create (break away from).
I myself have been using English as a weapon in my work for the past 30 years, and I still study English every day to become a master of the language.
According to a survey, there are 8 million people (English learners over the age of 25) who have finished their English education at school and continue to study English even after entering the workforce.
The level that these people are aiming for differs from person to person, but for people like me, who think of English as an art form, or an English path, I believe that the ultimate joy is to develop an English path that only you can follow.
I also feel that our life is like the “Mamoru-ba-ritsu”, the way of master-disciple relationship in the art. When we are born into this world, we first learn the kata, then we improve the kata little by little, and finally we create the kata (life) that only we can create. This is the purpose of life.
