今日は、小中の同級生で組んだオヤジバンドのメンバーの一人からお誘いをいただき、知り合いのバンドを何組も演奏するライブを見に横浜まで行ってきました。
親父バンドを結成して1年半、1月から2月に一度の頻度でスタジオに集まって練習をしています。
レパートリーもビートルズやサザンの曲まで7曲くらいまで増えてきましたが、来年の春くらいには中学校の同窓会を兼ねて演奏会をするという目標を持っています。
私自身は音楽経験のない中、2年前に50の手習いでアコースティックギターを始め、バンドではボーカルも務めさせてもらっているので責任重大です。
今日のライブのトップバッターは、皆さん平均年齢が60歳は超えていらっしゃると思われる素敵なバンドで、演奏された曲は全てビートルズとジョン・レノンのナンバーでした。アコギを弾きながらボーカルをこなす男性はまさに私の目指すべき姿。また、お隣でコーラスに入ったり、曲によってはリードボーカルもこなす女性は、アコギ＆ボーカルの男性の奥様。どうりで息が会っている訳です。
その次に登場したバンドは、キーボードの方がボーカルになり、ベース、ギター、ドラムと皆さん上手くてびっくりしました。
他に出ていたバンドの皆さんも、とにかく音楽を楽しんでいる姿が伝わってきて、とても刺激を受けることができました。
今回出ていたバンドは全て私よりも年齢を重ねた先輩方でしたが、音楽を楽しむのに年齢は関係ないと思うとともに、皆さんその陰で相当な練習を積み重ねてきたのだと思いました。
私自身ももっともっと練習して、同級生の前で演奏して、みんなに楽しんでもらえるくらいまでは絶対にレベルを上げることを改めて誓いました。
さあ、寝る前に少しでも練習します。

Today, I received an invitation from one of the members of my dad’s band, formed by my elementary and middle school classmates, to go to Yokohama to see a live concert where several bands I know played.
It has been a year and a half since I formed the Dad Band, and we get together in the studio to practice once every January or February.
Our repertoire has grown to about seven songs, ranging from Beatles to Southern songs, and we have a goal of having a concert for our junior high school reunion next spring or so.
While I myself have no musical experience, I started playing acoustic guitar two years ago as an apprentice to 50, and I am also the vocalist in the band, so it is a great responsibility.
The top performers at today’s concert were a nice band whose average age seemed to be over 60, and all the songs they played were Beatles and John Lennon numbers.
The man who played the acoustic guitar and did the vocals was exactly what I should have been aiming for. The woman next to him, who joined the chorus and sang lead vocals on some songs, was the wife of the man who played acoustic guitar and sang vocals. No wonder they were in sync with each other.
The next band was a keyboardist who became a vocalist, and I was surprised at how well they all played bass, guitar, and drums.
The other bands were also very inspiring, as they all seemed to be enjoying the music.
All of the bands were older than me, but I felt that age has nothing to do with the enjoyment of music, and that everyone had practiced a lot behind the scenes.
I vowed once again that I myself would practice even harder and definitely raise my level to the point where I could perform in front of my classmates and have everyone enjoy it.
Now, I will practice a little more before going to bed.
