國文功一郎郎さんの ”暇と退屈の倫理学”という本を、オードリーの若林正恭さんの帯の言葉に惹かれて買いました。
その言葉とは、
”國文先生、まさか哲学書で涙するとは思いまでんした….” というものです。
哲学というと何か小難しい内容を想像してしまいますが、そこに涙という感情を揺さぶられるような物語があるのか興味を惹かれたのです。
ちなみに、帯の裏には、本文からの抜粋で、
人はパンがなければ生きていけない。
しかし、パンだけで生きるべきでもない。
私たちはパンだけでなく、バラももとめよう。
生きることはバラで飾らなければならない。
という言葉が紹介されています。
まだ最初の章を読み始めたばかりではありますが、まさに今の私には、残りの人生でバラを咲かせたいという欲望が大きくなっているのだと改めて思うことになりました。
そんなことを考えいるうちに、以前読んだ別の本のタイトルが頭を巡りました。そのタイトルは、ドイツの宗教改革者であったマルチン・ルターの言葉をそのまま使ったものなのですが、
“たとえ明日、世界が滅びても今日、僕はリンゴの木を植える”
というものです。この言葉も、今の自分の気持ちを代弁してくれる言葉で、今やるべきことを精一杯やろうという気持ちを後押ししてくれる言葉だと思っています。
読書には、その登場人物や作者の言葉を通して、自分の心を揺さぶられたり、一生忘れられない経験になったりするので、こんなに有効な時間の使い方はないと思っています。
残りの人生であとどれくらい本を読めるか分かりませんが、”読まずに死ねるか”の意気込みで読書を続けていきたいなと思います。

I bought a book titled “The Ethics of Leisure and Boredom” by Koichiro Kokubun because of the words on the obi by Masayasu Wakabayashi of Audrey.
Those words were.
“Kokubun-sensei, I never thought I would cry over a philosophy book. ….”
I never thought I would be moved to tears by a book on philosophy.
I was interested to know if there was a story in the book that could move me to tears.
Incidentally, on the back of the obi, an excerpt from the text reads
People cannot live without bread.
But we should not live on bread alone.
We should seek not only bread but also roses.
Life must be adorned with roses.
The words, “We must not live by bread alone, but by roses as well.
Although I have only just started reading the first chapter, I am reminded that I have a growing desire to make roses bloom in the rest of my life.
As I was thinking about this, the title of another book I had read earlier came to mind.
The title of the book is a direct paraphrase of the words of Martin Luther, the German religious reformer, who said, “Even if the world were to perish tomorrow, we would still be able to live in a world of peace.
Even if the world perishes tomorrow, I will plant an apple tree today.
This is a quote from Martin Luther, the German religious reformer.
I believe that these words also speak for me today and encourage me to do the best I can with what I have to do now.
I believe that there is no more effective use of my time than reading books, because through the words of the characters and authors, I am moved by them and it becomes an experience that I will never forget.
I don’t know how many more books I will be able to read in the rest of my life, but I would like to continue reading with the determination, “Can I die without reading?
“たとえ明日、世界が滅びても今日、僕はリンゴの木を植える”。今日が人生最後の日だとしても悔いの残らないように、自分がやるべきことを愚直に行う。それが自分に与えられた人生の課題だと思うようになりました。今日も精一杯頑張ろう。
