1991年に社会人になってから32年。
これまでは会社という組織で会社員という身分で仕事をしてきました。
中には学生の時に起業して、そのまま誰にも雇われることなく仕事を続けている人もいますし、アーティストや作家、ミュージシャンなど自分のスキルだけで生きている人もいます。
私自身の場合、学生の時に社会に出てこれがしたいだとか、この世界で生きていきたいと具体的な目標は持っておらず、漠然と英語を使った仕事がしたいという理由で外資系の会社に就職することになりました。
ただ、大学3年の時に、このまま就職活動をするか、それとも海外の大学に留学するか結構真剣に悩んだ記憶がありますが。
いづれにしても、外資系の会社に就職したことは自分にとっては大正解でした。
就職して数年経った時に社内の早期退職者募集で上司や先輩、同期社員が去っていくのを見て、自分も生き残りのためとにかくスキルを磨かなくてはいけないと感じ、英語の勉強を続けることができたからです。
その後、海外勤務も10年以上経験させていただき、今働いている企業からヘッドハンティングの声がかかり転職させてもらったのも本当にラッキーでした。
それでも、子供の頃からなりたいものや、やりたいことが決まっていて、それを一生かけて続けている人には心底尊敬しますし、自分にはできないと思ってしまいます。
自分の場合は、中学生の時に、アメリカの映画俳優のポール・ニューマンに憧れて映画俳優か映画監督になることに憧れたことがありましたが、高校、大学と進むうちにそんなことも忘れてしまい夢に挑戦さえすることもなく終わってしまいました。
それでも今遅らばせながらも、若い時にできなかったことに次々と挑戦しています。
と言っても今から映画俳優や映画監督を目指すのは難しいので、フルマラソンに挑戦したり、ギターを習いながらバンド活動をしたりというレベルの話ですが。
そして、このブログもそうですし、英語の勉強を再開したりと、やりたいことをどんどんやっていて気がついたのですが、やりたいとをひたすらやっていると疲れにくくなり、精神的にもどんどんと若返ってくる気がするのです。
今年の10月には55歳になりますが、この後の人生は、とにかくやりたいことだけをしてどんどんアンチエイジングしていくことを目標にします。

It has been 32 years since I entered the workforce in 1991.
Until now, I have worked in an organization called a company with the status of a company employee.
There are people who started their own businesses when they were students and continue to work without being employed by anyone, and there are also artists, writers, musicians, and others who live by their own skills alone.
In my own case, when I was a student, I did not have a specific goal of what I wanted to do in society or how I wanted to live in this world, and I ended up working for a foreign company because I vaguely wanted to work using English.
However, I remember that in my third year of college, I seriously wondered whether I should continue to look for a job or study abroad at a foreign university.
In any case, finding a job at a foreign-affiliated company was a great decision for me.
A few years after I started working for the company, I saw my boss, senior employees, and classmates leave the company due to an internal call for early retirements.
After that, I was able to work overseas for more than 10 years, and I was very lucky that the company I work for now offered me a headhunting position and let me change jobs.
Still, I truly admire people who have a definite idea of what they want to be or what they want to do from childhood and who spend their entire lives doing it, and I feel that I could never do it myself.
In my case, when I was in junior high school, I admired the American movie actor Paul Newman and longed to become a movie actor or a movie director, but as I progressed through high school and college, I forgot about such things and ended up not even challenging my dream.

And as I am doing more and more things I want to do, such as this blog and resuming my English studies, I have noticed that I feel less tired and more and more mentally rejuvenated when I am doing what I want to do.
I will be 55 years old this October, and my goal for the rest of my life is to do only what I want to do and to keep on anti-aging.
50歳を過ぎて、やりたいことだけをすることに決め、頭より心に従っていると、どんどんと心も身体も若がってきているように感じています。残りの人生の中で今日が一番若い。まだまだ色々なことに挑戦したいので歳をとる暇はありません。
