就職 or 就社?

The headline is the news that ANA Holding’s consolidated net profit and loss forecast for the fiscal year ending March 2021 will be in the red by around 530 billion yen.

Speaking of ANA, the company has been at the top of the employment popularity rankings for new graduates every year, but its rank, which was fifth overall in terms of places of employment for students graduating in 2020, has dropped to sixteenth in terms of places of employment for students expected to graduate in 2009.

Is it inevitable that the rankings will drop even further in light of this news?

On the other hand, the company I’m currently working for doesn’t hire new graduates to begin with, so it’s never been ranked as a popular company for university students to work for, but it does seem to be very popular, ranking within the top 5 in a ranking of the most popular companies for career change among working adults.

When I was looking for a job as a university student, the only companies I could think of were foreign-affiliated companies. That’s because I wanted to be able to use English on the job and because I thought the corporate culture would be a good fit for me.

As a result, I have been working for a foreign-capitalized company for 20 years since I graduated, and I’m about to spend 8 years at my new company, which is also a foreign-capitalized company.

This is just a rule of thumb for me, but I think it was a good thing that I decided to become a specialist rather than a generalist at a relatively early stage of my career by working at a foreign company.

The difference between a Japanese company and a foreign company is sometimes compared to finding a job (focusing on the company) and finding a job (focusing on the content of the work).

It’s not that one is better or worse than the other, but from the point of view of being a master of happiness, as much as possible, the content of my work =I think it’s important to choose a job or company that gives you the opportunity to do and learn what you want to do and learn.
