竹のようになりたい

日本人であれば、竹林が原風景の一つになっている人が多くいるのではないかと思います。それくらい小さい時から身近にあり、そのため、竹が1日に何十センチも伸びることも多くの人に知られていると思います。

そんな竹に関して、最近初めて知ったことがあるのですが、竹は地上に出てくるまでにとても時間がかかり、驚くことに最初の数年間はほとんど伸びずに、地上に出てから一気に伸びるそうです。

それでは、最初の数年間は全く成長していないかというと、その期間は大地に根を張り、根の部分がどんどん成長しているそうです。根っこが地上に出た竹を支えられるくらいになると、竹はぐんぐんと一気に伸びて行くのだそうです。

地中で根を張っている時期は、人目に触れないものの、大地から水や栄養をもらいながら根を伸ばし、地上に出たあとは、一気に成長する。正に、長い下積みや不遇の時代を経て、メジャーで大活躍するアーティストやアスリートを彷彿させるではありませんか。

自分も竹のようになれるよう、一生懸命努力したいと思いました。😀

If you are Japanese, I think that many people have a bamboo forest as one of their original landscapes. I think many people know that bamboo has been around since they were small, and that’s why it grows dozens of centimeters a day.

I recently learned for the first time about such a bamboo, it takes a very long time for it to come out to the ground, and surprisingly, it hardly grows for the first few years, but after it comes out to the ground, it seems to grow at once.

Then, if you ask me if it grows at all during the first few years, it is said that during that period of time, it is rooted in the earth and the roots are growing rapidly. When the roots reach the point where they can support the bamboo above ground, the bamboo grows quickly and at once.

During the period when the bamboo is rooted in the ground, it is not visible to the public, but it grows while receiving water and nutrients from the earth, and after it reaches the ground, it grows at once. It reminds me of an artist or athlete who, after a long period of hard work and hardship, becomes a major player.

I wanted to work hard to become like Bamboo.　😀
