昨年末に作成した、今年からの5ヵ年の目標を書き込んだマンダラチャートの中に、”宇宙理論や数学など今で苦手だと思っていた理系の勉強をする”というアクションプランがあります。
そのためにはまず中学、高校の数学からやり直すことと、また、どうせやり直すなら一緒に英語の勉強も兼ねてということで、
“Everything You Need to Ace MATH in One Big Fat NotebookEverything”
“You Neeed to Ace Pre-Algebra & Algebra 1 in One Big Fat Notebook”
という2冊の数学のテキストを購入しました。
アイキャッチに使った写真の2冊がその本です。ちなみにその本を入れいてるデスク用のブックエンドは中1の娘が技術の授業で手作りしたものです。
学生のときに数学は苦手科目だったのに、英語で数学を学ぶことなんてできるかなとも思いましたが、もしかしたら数学のよう理論を学ぶ学問は英語のように同じく理論を表現するのに適している言語との相性が良いのではないかなんて期待もしているところです。
今日は基礎中の基礎ですが、有理数(Rational Number)や、無理数 (Irrational Number)など数学で使う数の種類を学び直しました。これらの数の種類は意外に英語の方が覚えやすいかもしれません。
英書52冊マラソンも、この2ヶ月で9冊を読み終わり、すでに10冊目を読んでいてここまで順調なペースで進んでいます。
これに加えてこの英語で書かれた数学のテキスト2冊も完読して、娘に数学を教えられるくらいのレベルになったら嬉しいなと一人ニヤニヤしている自分がいるのでした。

In the mandala chart I created at the end of last year, in which I wrote down my goals for the next five years, there is an action plan to “study science subjects such as space theory and mathematics, which I thought I was not good at at the moment.

I purchased two math textbooks, “Everything You Need to Ace MATH in One Big Fat Notebook
The two books in the picture I used for the eye-catcher are those two books. By the way, the desk bookends that hold the books were handmade by my middle school daughter in her technology class.
I wondered if it would be possible to learn mathematics in English, since mathematics was not my favorite subject when I was a student, but I am hoping that perhaps a subject that teaches theory, like mathematics, would be better suited to a language like English, which is also suitable for expressing theory.
Today, we learned about the types of numbers used in mathematics such as rational numbers and irrational numbers, which are the very basics of mathematics. Surprisingly, these types of numbers may be easier to learn in English.
I have also finished reading 52 English books in the past two months, and have already read the 10th book, so far progressing at a steady pace. I am grinning to myself, thinking that I will be happy when I finish reading these two math texts written in English in addition to this one and reach a level where I can teach math to my daughter.
