英語の達人になる

いよいよ年の瀬も迫ってきました。

”幸せの達人のなる”のブログを開設して、10ヶ月が立ちました。

その中でも、”英語の達人になる” ことは、自分に取っての大きなテーマとなりますが、新しい年を迎えるにあたり、向こう5ヶ年の計画を立ててみました。

先ず、最初に自分の今の英語のレベル、そして目指すべきレベルを設定するにあたり、松本道弘先生が提唱されている、英語道実力測定表を使わせていただきました。

先ず、私の現在の英語レベルですが、レベル６からレベル７の間かなと思っています。１級から初段の間ですね。シドニーから帰国した2007年に実力試しで受けたTOIECが930点、英語読解速度を測ってみたところ250wpmでした。

レベル6	1級（茶帯）	英検1級・TOEIC 920点	運用語彙5000～6000語、英字誌読解速度150～200wpm、英語放送理解度50％。社会問題の5割ぐらいを、通じる英語で議論したり、論理的に書いたりすることができる。
レベル7	初段（黒帯）	資格3冠（英検1級・TOEIC960点を含む）	運用語彙6000～7000語、英字誌読解速度200～250wpm、英語放送理解度60％。社会問題の6割ぐらいを、通じる英語でア議論したり、論理明快にエッセイ書いたりすることができる。

シドニー勤務の1996年から今までの24年間で、仕事とプライベートを含めて25,000時間くらいは英語に触れてきたとざっくり計算しました。これから向こう5カ年で英語道三段のレベルを目指して行きたいと思います。

レベル9

3段（黒帯）

資格9冠（英検1級・TOEIC満点を含む）

運用語彙1万～1万2000語、英字誌読解速度300～350wpm、英語放送理解度70－75％。社会問題の8割ぐらいを、論理明快な英語で議論でき、語彙豊富で引き締まった英語でエッセイを書ける

かなり上のレベルになりますが、英語の達人になることを公言した以上は、これくらいのチャレンジをしたいと純粋に思いました。

幸いなことに、毎日の仕事の中で英語を3時間以上は使っていますので、プライベートな時間で毎日3時間は英語にコミットすれば、週末なども勘案して、5カ年で、10,000時間英語の学習に充てられることになります。

The end of the year is finally upon us.

It’s been ten months since I started the Happiness Guru blog. One of the major themes for me is to become a master of English, and as we start a new year, I have made a plan for the next five years.

First of all, in order to determine my current level of English, and the level I should aim for, I used the English Road Proficiency Test proposed by Michihiro Matsumoto.

First of all, my current level of English is between Level 6 and Level 7, which is between 1 kyu and Shodan.

When I returned from Sydney in 2007, I took the TOIEC as a test of my ability, and my reading speed was 250 wpm.

Level 6Ikkyu (brown belt)
EIKEN level 1, TOEIC score 920Operational vocabulary of 5,000-6,000 words, English magazine reading speed of 150-200 wpm, English broadcast comprehension of 50%. Able to discuss and write logically about 50% of social issues in passable English.

Level 7 Shodan (black belt)
Three qualifications (including EIKEN level 1 and TOEIC score 960)Operational vocabulary of 6,000-7,000 words, English magazine reading speed of 200-250 wpm, English broadcast comprehension of 60%. Able to discuss about 60% of social issues in understandable English and write essays with clear logic.

I have roughly calculated that I have been exposed to English for about 25,000 hours in the 24 years since I started working in Sydney in 1996, including work and private life.

Over the next five years, I would like to achieve the level of 3-dan in English.

Level 9 Sandan (Black Belt)
Qualifications: 9 titles (including EIKEN Level 1 and TOEIC Full Score)Vocabulary of 10,000-12,000 words, reading speed of 300-350 wpm in English magazines, comprehension level of 70-75% in English broadcasting. Able to discuss about 80% of social issues in clear, logical English, and write essays in tight, vocabulary-rich English.This is a pretty high level, but I genuinely wanted to challenge myself to this level since I professed to be a master of English.

Fortunately, I spend at least three hours in English every day at work, so if I commit to three hours of English every day in my personal time, I will be able to devote 10,000 hours to learning English in five years, including weekends.
