情熱の源泉

今日は予定通り、朝早くから洋書（Why Bob Dylan Matters）を３時間近く読んでいました。

少し気分転換ということで、ブログ記事を書いています。

この歳になっても、英語への情熱は冷めるどころか、どんどんと高まっていっていることには本当に自分の人生に感謝しなければいけないと思っています。

そもそも英語に対する情熱の源泉は何だろうと考えてみましたが、それは、自分が小学生の頃から抱いていたアメリカへの憧れからでした。

私の父は戦後進駐軍でアルバイトをしていた経験があったため英語に堪能でした。

当時小学生低学年だった私に、英単語や簡単な英語のフレーズ、そして英語の歌を教えてくれたことがきっかけで英語が身近にあった記憶があります。

そして父が大好きだったギャング映画や西部劇を一緒に見て、アメリカに憧れを抱くことになります。

当時小学生4年生か5年生で、ジョン・ウェインが自分に取ってのヒーローでしたが、そんな渋い小学生流石に周りにはいませんでした。

中学生になると友達と映画館に足運ぶようになり、それでもヒーローは、スーパーマンやロッキーと、いつでもハリウッド映画の影響を受けていました。

ということで、子供の頃の憧れや原体験は、大人になっても、この先死ぬまで情熱として持ち続けていけるプレシャスなものなのだと思います。

ジョン・ウェインも、父ももうこの世にはいませんが、私の心の中に英語の情熱と共に生きているのだと思えました。

Today, as planned, I spent almost three hours early in the morning reading a western book (Why Bob Dylan Matters).

As a change of pace, I’m writing a blog post.I really have to thank my life for the fact that my passion for English has not cooled down at this age, but has been growing and growing.

I wondered what was the source of my passion for English in the first place, and it was the longing for America that I had had since I was in elementary school.

My father had worked part-time for the Occupation Forces after the war and was fluent in English.

I was in the early grades of elementary school at the time, and he taught me English words, simple English phrases, and English songs, and I remember being very familiar with English.

Watching gangster movies and westerns with my father, which he loved, made me long for America.I was in the fourth or fifth grade of elementary school at the time, and John Wayne was my hero, but there were no such reluctant elementary school kids around.

When I became a junior high school student, I started going to the movie theaters with my friends, but my heroes were still Superman and Rocky, and I was always influenced by Hollywood movies.

So, I think that childhood admiration and original experiences are precious things that we can keep as passions until we grow up and die.John Wayne and my father are no longer with us, but I felt that they are still alive in my heart with their passion for English.
