昨日は久しぶりに、Intelligence Squared USのサイトで、ディベートの番組を視聴しました。
このサイトは、Intelligence Squared US Foundationという非営利団体が運営していています。世界情勢や、文化、科学、アメリカの国内問題などの様々なトピックに関して、その分野に世界的に精通している専門家を招き、お題に対して賛成派、反対派のチームに分けて、ディベートを戦わせます。ディベートの前に、オーディンエンスから事前に賛成、反対のアンケートを取り、ディベート後にもう一度アンケートを取ることで、ディベート前と後で票が大きく移った（獲得した）チームの勝利となります。
そして、このサイトの素晴らしいとことは、そのディベートの内容が全て文字に書き起こされているので、英語の学習者にとっては英語の勉強のための宝庫と言っていいと思っています。
また、ディベートのレベルがとても高く、知的好奇心が刺激されるだけでなくて、いつか自分もあんなに英語を駆使してディベートをしてみたいとモチベーションが上がりまくりです。
一つのディベートは、1時間くらいの長さで結構な量なのですが、スクリプトがあるので何とかついていくことができます。
ただ、昨日は、ランニングをしながら聴いていたので、音声だけでどれくらい理解できるかを試すいい機会にもなりました。
私自身、究極の夢は、このような舞台で、英語を駆使してディベートを交わすことだと改めて思った次第です。
実現できる確率はかなり低いのは分かっていますが、英語の達人を目指しているのなら、これくらいの夢を持って、自分を高めていくことが今の自分にとっても必要なことだと思っています。
夢は、そんなことできるわけないだろと、人から笑われるくらいの大きな夢を持つことがとても重要なのかもしれません。さあ、今日も夢見て行きましょう。

Yesterday, for the first time in a while, I watched a debate program on the Intelligence Squared US website.
The site is run by a non-profit organization called the Intelligence Squared US Foundation. They invite experts who are world experts in various topics such as world affairs, culture, science, and domestic issues in the U.S., and divide them into teams to debate for and against the topic. Before the debate, the audiences are asked to fill out a questionnaire for their approval or disapproval, and then again after the debate, so that the team with the most votes before and after the debate wins.
And the great thing about this site is that all the debates are transcribed in writing, so I think it is a treasure trove for English learners to study English.
Also, the level of the debates is so high that it not only stimulates my intellectual curiosity, but also motivates me to want to one day debate in English like that myself.
Each debate is about an hour long, which is quite a lot, but I can manage to keep up with them because of the scripts.
However, yesterday, I was listening to them while running, so it was a good opportunity to test how much I could understand just by listening to the audio.
I was reminded once again that my ultimate dream is to engage in debates in English on such a stage.
I know that the probability of achieving this is quite low, but if I want to become a master of English, I believe that having a dream like this and improving myself is what I need to do now as well.
It may be very important to have a dream so big that people will laugh at you and say, “There is no way you can do that. Now, let’s go dream today.
昨日は、お気に入りのサイトのディベート番組を視聴していました。一流のディベーターたちの英語のディベートに圧倒されるとともに、私自身の究極の夢は、このような舞台に立って英語でディベートを交わすことだと改めて思うのでした。
